Conference Announcement and Call for Papers
Introduction
Climate change poses a serious threat to food security of millions of pastoral families engaged in extensive livestock production systems in the arid and semi-arid lands in Africa. The primary concern is how to mitigate the extreme impact of climate oscillations on these communities and other vulnerable groups, whose livelihoods depend almost entirely on climate-sensitive resources. One approach towards combating the hydra-headed challenges of climate change is to adopt a multi-stakeholder involvement in knowledge sharing and exchange by all those involved, and/or affected by climate change impacts.

Goal of the conference
The goal of this CCAA-supported conference is to explore options and strategies in climate change adaptation and mitigation by vulnerable pastoral communities in arid and semi-arid lands, including scientific advances and global best practices in climate change adaptation, novel indigenous approaches in animal management and adaptive breeding by vulnerable communities in the dry lands.
Aims of the conference
-
To bring together stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, including scientists and international experts, research fellows, representative of local communities, policy makers, NGOs, CBOs and representatives of vulnerable communities, to discuss options and strategies for climate change adaptation and livestock production in low-input systems in the dry-lands.
-
To explore new research agenda and intervention measures geared towards building adaptive capacity and resilience to climatic extremes by vulnerable groups and communities.
